"New" TfL information number

TfL's website says "Get journey information in a flash by calling our new, voice-activated telephone service on 0843 222 1234" but calling 08 numbers is more expensive from most phone lines.

Say no to 0870 is a good website for finding the geographic "connect numbers" for 08 NTS (Number Translation Service) numbers

The entry for 0843 222 1234 gives two alternatives - 020 7222 1234 - TfL's main number and 020 7222 1200 - a lesser known but still long-standing number which (it says) connects through to the same place as 7222 1234 option 2. I haven't tested this.

Hello, it's Dave from SAYNOTO0870.COM.

The 0843 222 1234 and (020) 7222 1234 numbers are currently answered in exactly the same way. For status updates (same as option 2) ring (020) 7222 1200. We have no idea how long these alternatives will last for.

The new system is an automated one, but TfL charges service users more than the old one!

Most mobile phones have internet access and the TfL wap site which allows access to timetables and status updates is tflwap.gov.uk

If you want National Rail Enquiries when out and about, don't bother ringing the 0845/0871 numbers, go to wap.nationalrail.co.uk on your mobile. You can look-up timetables as well as live departures and arrivals at all stations.
