New path and gate in Mayesbrook Park

Further to my post back in September about the new path (see link above) the new gate I expected is now in use.

The gate is between Exeter House to the East and Keele House to the west. These are in Academy Way near its junction with Honour Gardens. Academy Way at its E end fomas a crossroads with Lodge Avenue and Fitzstephen Road.

New path in Mayesbrook Park

A new path has been built in Mayesbrook Park, roughly bisecting the northernmost field (containing the cricket ground) running north-south. It finishes at the fence by Honour Gardens, one of the new roads in Academy Central - ie the former UEL Barking Campus site - I can only conclude there will be a new gate into the park there.

If this is the case, it will help form more routes avoiding Longbridge Rd, and particularly the junction with Goodmayes Lane, which will be attractive and useful.

From memory, B&D council has already started to pepper Academy Central with restrictions on cycling, such as no entries and one ways. I need to go and audit / take photos (or find previous photos). Then I will raise this with the council.

Sporthouse

This is Britain's largest sports hall, apparently. I had a look at the outside today. Entering Mayesbrook Park (where it stands at the north end) from Lodge Avenue, in true B&D style the first thing I encountered was - yes a 1 way system! There's a newly built access road from the pre-existing park entrance to the front of the sports hall, and it has a nice wide footway, but again cycling has been overlooked in this element (hough there are Sheffield stands for bike parking at the entrance to the building.

I rode along the southern side of the building and came to a banjo, for motor vehicles to turn in I assume. There is no facility for cyclists to join the pre-existing park path that's right near it.
